CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Focus on Masters, a Ventura nonprofit, will launch its 2026 Artist Spotlight series at Namba Performing Arts Center (47 S. Oak St) with live interviews scheduled for Feb. 15, April 19, June 7, and Aug. 30. Admission is free for members, $10 for seniors, and $15 for others upon RSVP. Moorpark Acorn
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Musketeers dance team will debut as a competitive squad at Westlake High School Jan. 11 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Coaches from Moorpark and Simi Valley worked together to build the program and give students a chance to compete. Moorpark Acorn
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Social Security recipients receive January 2026 payments as scheduled, while SSI payments are deposited Dec. 31 since Jan. 1 is a holiday (note the scheduling change). California has over 1.1 million SSI recipients, and a 2.8% COLA will increase retirees' monthly check by $56. Ventura County Star
REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ A construction crew is renovating Surfside Motel at 615 Port Hueneme Road after owner Dario Pini obtained permits and started work mid-December following a compliance agreement signed in May. The project must meet city requirements by May 19 to avoid further penalties. Ventura County Star
