ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The DOE plans to remove the underground basement (Building 4024) at the former Santa Susana Field Lab near Simi Valley. Officials will work with the state toxic control department this year to study subsurface conditions and ensure safe demolition that could begin by late 2027. Ventura County Star
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Volunteers and County of Ventura staff conducted the annual homeless count in Ventura on Jan. 28 (about 460 participants) to gather key data on the region’s homeless population. Ventura County Star
- ➤ Ventura County will stop running its Area Agency on Aging on July 1 as the state plans to choose a new administrator by April; community groups worry that key services and the Aging and Disability Resource Center (ending June 30) may face interruptions. Ventura County Star
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Dos Pueblos edged cross-town rival San Marcos 42 to 38 on a strong finish from Senior Carly Letendre's nine fourth-quarter points, moving into second in the Channel League. The team improved to a 9 to 3 record (Ventura remains undefeated) with two games left. KEYT
