ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Workers are repairing a sinkhole caused by a watermain break that closed westbound lanes on Pleasant Valley Road near Jefferson Square in Oxnard on Feb. 3+ the road is set to remain closed through today. Ventura County Star
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Topa Topa Brewing Co. in Ventura laid off about 15 employees on Jan. 27 (including roles in HR, taproom management, production, and marketing) to trim costs amid a slowdown in the craft beer market and will continue with plans to renovate its downtown taproom without reducing production. Ventura County Star
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ FAFSA applications remain open in California with a March 2 deadline for most students and a Sept. 2 deadline for community college applicants; the form, which opened Oct. 1, 2025, is required to access federal student aid annually. Ventura County Star
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Taxpayers may check their federal and state refund status online using tools from the Franchise Board and IRS—each tool requires your SSN and refund amount, and online filings can yield a refund in three weeks while paper filings may take up to three months and trigger mail notifications for differences. Ventura County Star
