COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Luigi is a 6-year-old Labrador retriever mix who has waited nearly a year to be adopted from Ventura County Animal Services at 600 Aviation Drive, Camarillo. This 88-pound dog, who does well with kids, has his adoption fee waived so he can find a calm family.  Moorpark Acorn
  • On Feb. 14, Bill Brayton and partner Jamie exchanged vows in the first group wedding ceremony at the Ventura County Hall of Administration—joining 11 other couples for a bilingual service officiated by county officials.   • Three local high school sophomores, recognized at a Moorpark City Council meeting on Feb. 4, are leading a six week Roll Over Cancer campaign to raise $100,000 by March 20. ECONOMY NEWS

  • At California Lutheran University on Feb. 19, professor Jamshid Damooei led a half-day conference that examined Ventura County’s high living costs and discussed policy and market — fixes for local affordability issues. His study noted that many residents face housing challenges that hinder their chances for an inclusive economy.  Ventura County Star

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Ventura Unified School District has approved more than 45 full-time equivalent layoffs at the end of this academic year to save between $3 and $4 million annually amid declining enrollment and rising costs, and administrators may restore positions if enrollment or course requests improve.  Ventura County Star

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Feb. 19, U.S. Rep. Salud Carbajal met with Ventura College students and staff to discuss the rising cost of living and related challenges on his affordability tour. The meeting provided a chance to address local concerns.  Ventura County Star
  • Vandenberg launches its free Mission Update series today at the Dick DeWees Community Center in Lompoc, featuring Col. Horne and researcher Kent Gee on rocket launch impact mitigation with sessions planned in Ventura + Santa Barbara counties.  KEYT
