COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Veteran pilot Cecelia Stratford received the FAA’s Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award on Sat., Mar. 21 at University Village for her 50 years of safe flying and mentorship; more than 60 family & former students honored her legacy during the ceremony.  Thousand Oaks Acorn
  • Downtown Ventura's nonprofit Seniors Craft Shoppe is a creative hub where older adults sell handcrafted items and explore modern techniques like 3D printing and AI. The shop operates daily with volunteer shifts that let seniors earn money from their art.  KEYT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Oxnard School District board voted on March 25 to begin renaming Cesar Chavez School in La Colonia due to controversy. A citizen advisory committee and community survey will help choose a new name with a goal to complete the process by the new school year in August.  Ventura County Star

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Ventura residents should note that state and federal tax returns are due by April 15. Taxpayers in California receive an automatic extension to Oct. 15 (payments remain due by the original deadline) and can check their refund status online.  Ventura County Star
  • Ventura County officials reported a nearly 12% drop in the homeless population, with 1,755 people counted on Jan. 28 due to new housing units & targeted outreach. Full survey details will be released in May.  Thousand Oaks Acorn
