CULTURE NEWS

  • Pink Martini held a global musical celebration at Kavli Theatre on March 13, entertaining a full house with Latin, jazz, and world rhythms. The show featured audience sing-alongs and a guest performance by Gina Belafonte — a debut that added extra flair to the evening.  Moorpark Acorn
  • Malabo Lake resident Brian Rooney won Best Local Short Doc at the Ladyface Mountain Film Festival for his documentary 'Our Hollywood Backyard,' which explores Hollywood history at the old Fox Ranch near Malibu. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Wallis Annenberg Wildlife Crossing is a project to reconnect local wildlife habitats over the busy freeway. Rising costs from $90 million to over $114 million and delays from heavy rains and complex construction mean the project is now expected to finish in 2026.  Moorpark Acorn

  • Andrea Gallagher of Senior Concerns explains that degenerative changes in the spine are a normal part of aging and advises physical therapy + ergonomic adjustments for neck and shoulder pain.   • Ventura health officials are monitoring the BA.3.2 'Cicada' COVID variant after its detection in wastewater statewide today. Officials say the virus — highly mutated but not causing severe illness — means residents with cough and sore throat should test promptly.  Ventura County Star

  • Developers announced plans on March 27 to convert 126 acres at Muranaka Farm (currently used for crops) in Moorpark into up to 700 homes. Further review of the proposal is expected soon.  Ventura County Star
  • Homeowner Leo Paulo is rebuilding his Santa Cruz Way home with noncombustible concrete panels to protect against future wildfires, following the Mountain fire which destroyed his previous home.
