EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ John Puglisi has been on leave since March 12 in Rio School District—along with two assistant superintendents—so interim superintendent Veronica Rauschenberger now leads the nine-school district serving about 5,200 students in northern Oxnard; officials did not share details of the leave. - ➤ Wildlife officials rescued a 22-day-old mountain lion kitten (P-131) from a Santa Monica Mountains den on April 1 at 10:38 a.m. after it was injured with missing toes; he was treated at the Los Angeles Zoo and moved to the Oakland Zoo as he cannot be released. Ventura County Star
- ➤ Authorities reported that a bear was seen in a Fillmore neighborhood near B Street + Blaine Avenue on March 31 and April 1. The sheriff's office advised residents to avoid the animal as deputies continued monitoring its movements and contacted the California Department of Fish and Wildlife for assistance.
