CRIME NEWS

  • A 30-year-old Thousand Oaks woman was arrested after she used a hammer to break the window at a Vons on Ventura Street in Fillmore on April 24 at 1:53 a.m.—she was later found in a homeless encampment with the stolen liquor.  KEYT
  • Joseph Lynn Johnson of Port Hueneme was convicted by a Ventura County jury of raping an elderly woman with Alzheimer's—he is scheduled to be sentenced on May 22nd in Courtroom 14 at Ventura County Superior Court and remains in custody.  KEYT

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A dead humpback whale and other marine animals washed ashore on Ventura beaches Friday, and locals reported sightings of sick dolphins, seals, and pelicans along the coast. Scientists say toxic algae blooms are raising Domoic acid levels—making animals disoriented and causing strandings—and they will investigate further.  KEYT
