CRIME NEWS

  • On April 24, a 26-year-old man from Santa Paula was arrested after ramming his car into another vehicle and fleeing the scene—two Los Angeles men were also taken into custody for breaking into a pro shop in Thousand Oaks early that morning. A former Ventura dry cleaner agreed to pay $32,065 for disposing of hazardous waste improperly from its Unique Cleaners site, and new waste rules will apply to its future business in Camarillo.  Ventura County Star

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A draft Environmental Assessment for wildfire risk reduction in Los Padres National Forest is open for public review, covering fuels treatments on nearly 90,800 acres in areas including Ventura, Santa Barbara, and San Luis Obispo. The public may submit comments from May 2 to June 2—helping shape plans to reduce wildfire risk and enhance forest health.  KEYT
  • CSU Channel Islands students partnered with Native Monarchs to plant milkweed and install raptor perches—an effort to help the threatened monarch butterfly population recover amid habitat loss and pesticide use. The university also honored Native Monarchs as nonprofit of the year at its CI Connections breakfast.  KEYT
