- ➤ Ventura announced that David Dickey—an assistant chief in the department—will become the new chief of police on May 16 and will lead more than 250 staff, replacing interim chief Tony Lee who will leave in June for a role with the Los Angeles County district attorney's Bureau of Investigation. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ A new seafood guide advises Ventura residents on choosing and preparing fish that are safe to eat—highlighting which options have low mercury. The guide warns residents to avoid high-mercury fish to help reduce health risks. Ventura County Star
- ➤ Three food companies settled with the California Attorney General on April 28 after being accused of selling seafood with high levels of lead and cadmium without the needed Proposition 65 warnings. Clearwater Fine Foods must pay $304,165 and Seaquest Seafood Corp. and Jayone Foods must pay $81,440 - all firms will change their monitoring practices to reduce the risks from heavy metal contamination.
