ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Firefighters battled the Center Fire in Piru on May 3 near Center Street & East Telegraph Road as they contained a brush fire that reached about 3 acres and prompted an evacuation warning for one home.  Ventura County Star

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Construction on new athletic facilities at Del Sol High in Oxnard has advanced while the school wraps up its first varsity season. The project funded by a $285 million bond measure is adding locker rooms, fields (baseball, softball, tennis) and a scoreboard post and will finish soon.  Ventura County Star

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Former Port Hueneme mayor Tony Volante, known for fighting to save Naval Base Ventura County and supporting local community groups, died in April after a pancreatic cancer diagnosis & is survived by wife Barbara, children and grandchildren.  KEYT
