A UC Santa Barbara researcher found that dead kelp from kelp forests helps boost beach ecosystems in Ventura by fueling key species and supporting detritivore diversity.
The study gathered data from 24 beaches across Santa Barbara and Ventura counties.

Oil companies seek an injunction to curb access to Ventura Hills Nature Preserve along Hall Canyon Road — a move that would close its parking area at a May 12 hearing, while Ventura Land Trust officials say the order would limit community use of the preserve opened in March.
