- ➤ A small plane crashed in the Wood Ranch area of Simi Valley on May 3, killing two Conejo Valley men—Paul Berkovitz and his son Matthew—and a family pet while causing fires and damage to nearby homes; Ventura County Fire, Simi Valley Police and the NTSB are investigating the incident. - ➤ Fire crews extinguished a fire in a small office at a car dealership on Auto Center Drive early Thursday morning, with 37 first responders arriving 30 minutes before midnight — crews stayed for about two hours as the cause was investigated and no injuries were reported. KEYT

- ➤ A Thousand Oaks man narrowly avoided a carjacking on April 29 when three or four masked men stopped him on the 2000 block of Moss Court east of the 23 Freeway and took about $1,000 in cash before fleeing—sheriff’s officers say no arrests have been made yet—and he kept his vehicle. - ➤ Officials say that the remains of Simi Valley residents Jose Luis Perez, 64, and Stephanie Elizabeth Perez, 65, found on May 4 near the intersection of Sunrise and Autumn Ridge Trails in Lang Ranch open space, were identified as part of a murder-suicide case where Perez died by his own hand while his wife was fatally shot—investigators noted the couple had been missing since last July and there is no danger to the public. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Ventura County has no measles cases in 2025, but health officials worry because only 94% of kindergartners have received the MMR vaccine (the level needed for herd immunity is 95%), as 884 cases were confirmed nationwide through April.
