CRIME NEWS
- ➤ The family of 16-year-old Stephanie Guerrero said she was last seen in Port Hueneme on May 9 getting into a black Ram 1500 truck at 2:00 a.m.—she is 5'6, weighs 120 lbs, and may have been wearing her glasses; contacts with information are urged to call Port Hueneme Police at 805-986-6530. KEYT
- ➤ On May 14, a mother and daughter were arrested at their Oxnard residence (2000 block of Pamela Street) for embezzling more than $550,000 from a financial services business on Carpinteria Avenue and now face multiple felony charges. KEYT
- ➤ A hiker discovered human remains at about 7 p.m. on May 4 near the intersection of Sunrise and Autumn Ridge trails in Lang Ranch open space, and Ventura County Sheriff’s Office later identified them as Simi Valley residents Jose Luis Perez, 64, and Stephanie Elizabeth Perez, 65, whose deaths in an apparent murder-suicide were ruled a suicide for the man and a homicide for the woman — authorities say there is no public danger. - ➤ The Conejo Valley Unified School District was notified by the U.S. Department of Education that funding for its School-Based Mental Health Services Grant Program will end after the current budget period—risking nearly 20 mental health positions added since 2022. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Caltrans will start installing 6,500 linear feet of chain link fencing along the Arroyo Simi Bridge in Moorpark this month to help prevent suicides, with the fence standing 9.5 feet tall on a concrete base. The $6.8 million project will run at night—Monday through Friday and on weekends—until it finishes in December as intermittent lane closures occur. Thousand Oaks Acorn
