ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Fire officials ordered evacuation for parts of Simi Valley after the Sandy Fire burned 180 acres on Monday, May 18 near the 600 block of Sandy Drive as the Simi Valley Unified School District confirmed all students were safe and crews with engines & aircraft worked to protect neighborhoods. - ➤ Fire crews are battling the 1364 acre vegetation fire south of Simi Valley — evacuation orders are in place with a temporary point at Rancho Santa Susana Community Park and animal shelters in Simi and Camarillo assisting displaced pets. KEYT
- ➤ Fire crews battled a 184-acre brush fire near Simi Valley that started May 18 and led to evacuation orders and warnings, while temporary shelters opened for small and large animals at local facilities. KEYT
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Santa Rosa Island fire in Channel Islands National Park has burned over 10,000 acres and led to the island’s closure. Firefighters created defensible spaces around historic structures and will assess aerial water drop options if weather permits. Ventura County Star
