  • On May 28th, construction began at 4300 Telegraph Road near Ventura College on the College Community Courts project — a 57-unit affordable housing development by People’s Self-Help Housing that includes 14 one-bedroom, 28 two-bedroom and 15 three-bedroom units with 29 reserved for farmworkers.  Ventura County Star

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A construction failure at a downtown Ventura apartment project caused the ground to collapse and damage nearby properties on May 29 (no injuries were reported). Ventura officials quickly closed a residential building and part of a commercial lot while they review the shoring issue.  Ventura County Star

CRIME NEWS

  • Sheriff's detectives are investigating online cannabis sales after a 15-year-old student bought edibles that caused a medical emergency at Camarillo High in February. They recommended a felony charge against a 21-year-old Lompoc resident and urged parents to monitor their kids' social media activity—especially messages about unknown payments.  KEYT

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A team from California Grazing Co. used 250 goats and 200 sheep to clear tall brush in a canyon between Lou Dillon Lane and Alston Road to reduce fire risk, ending a week-long effort on Wednesday morning. The herd will work next in areas including Trout Club off Painted Cave Road and Bell Canyon—an initiative led by the Eucalyptus Hill Improvement Association and funded by the Fire Safe Council.  KEYT

  • Pismo Beach was named the second best beach in California by USA Today’s Readers’ Choice Awards after it was recently honored as Best Coastal Small Town.
