CRIME NEWS

  • A 22-year-old Fillmore man was arrested Wednesday for allegedly battering a witness during an April fight on Mountain View Street that hospitalized two men — investigators collected evidence linking him during a June search warrant.  KEYT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Ventura County fire departments, including those from Oxnard, Ventura, and Fillmore, released a joint statement today saying that emergency services are for everyone—no matter their immigration status, and they do not ask or record that information.   • Simi Valley Unified School Board President Kristina Pine resigned on June 16 after her husband’s hiring as a teacher was found to violate state law—four board members will decide to either appoint a replacement or hold a special election while the district plans to improve conflict-of-interest training.   • The U.S. Bureau of Land Management announced a 30-day public comment period that will begin on June 23 for proposed changes to allow new oil and gas leasing on public lands—changes that would affect parts of the California Coastal and Carrizo Plain national monuments.
