ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On July 2 at 8:45 p.m., a head-on crash on Ventura Street in Fillmore killed a 28-year-old woman from Oxnard and a five-year-old boy—and four others were taken to the hospital, the Ventura County Sheriff's Office said.  KEYT
  • Fireworks sparked an explosion at a Simi Valley home on Thursday around 11:48 a.m., causing a house fire and one death, and firefighters had the blaze under control by 12:42 p.m.—the Medical Examiner’s Office began identifying the victim while police urged locals to avoid the 1600 block of Edmund Street.  KEYT

CRIME NEWS

  • On May 22, Ventura County deputies answered a call in Thousand Oaks where a man with multiple stab wounds was found, and later arrested four individuals—three local gang members and one teen—on charges including assault with a deadly weapon, with the investigation still ongoing.  Thousand Oaks Acorn
  • An Oak Park man was arrested on June 30 and charged with non-alcohol vehicle manslaughter after a May 6 collision at the intersection of Via las Brisas and Calle del Prado in Dos Vientos that killed Newbury Park residents Alejandro and Maria Ramirez—he allegedly drove his Jeep nearly twice the speed limit.  Thousand Oaks Acorn

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy awarded $3.2 million in state funds to the Los Angeles County and Ventura County Fire Departments to lower wildfire risk by removing brush from parks—$2.2 million went to Los Angeles County and $1 million went to Ventura County. The grants come from Proposition 4 funds approved in November 2024 and will improve local safety before the next fire season.  Thousand Oaks Acorn

HEALTH NEWS

  • Los Robles Regional Medical Center closed its 12-bed pediatric ward on July 1 due to low patient volume but its emergency room still treats children in emergencies. Local doctors and community members have raised concerns about the gap in care, warning that children needing admission may have to travel 25 miles to Ventura County Medical Center + they hope local officials will work to improve pediatric services.  Thousand Oaks Acorn
