CRIME NEWS

  • On May 6, a 21-year-old man from Oak Park—Neil Liam Reb—was charged with two counts of felony gross vehicular manslaughter after he collided with a Volkswagen Tiguan at the intersection of Via Las Brisas and Calle Del Prado in Newbury Park, killing Alejandro and Maria Ramirez while reportedly speeding at nearly 90 mph in his 2024 Jeep Wrangler.  Moorpark Acorn

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Ventura drivers have seen higher gas prices since July 1 when a state gas tax increase and new environmental rules raised fuel costs by up to 20 cents per gallon—this spike adds extra strain to household budgets. The measures, intended to reduce carbon emissions, continue to impact daily commutes and family expenses.  Moorpark Acorn

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Newsom’s trailer bill will speed up the Delta Conveyance Project—an upgrade needed to secure the water that travels over 400 miles to reach our homes—by reducing red tape while keeping safety reviews in place. Assemblymember Jacqui Irwin supports the bill, and water experts say the plan is key to preventing future shortages after the 2022 drought.  Moorpark Acorn
