  • A 24-year-old woman lost her arm when an Amtrak train struck the bike she carried while crossing near Seaward Avenue just before 5:30 p.m. Monday (she is stable at a local hospital) and Ventura Police ask anyone with information to call.  KEYT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Federal officials paused $811 million in grant funding for teacher training, after-school programs and student wellness services on July 1, putting essential school services in Oxnard and nearby areas at risk. Local school leaders say they are scrambling to adjust with the new school year fast approaching — the review may allow funds to be released soon.  KEYT

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The USDA says that 30% to 40% of food goes uneaten, wasting water, energy and work while adding harmful gas to landfills. Food Forward—a local nonprofit—is offering tips so Ventura residents can safely reuse food scraps to make tasty meals by following the two-hour—40/140 rule.  Ventura County Star
