Good morning, Ventura.
🚨 Crime
Oxnard Police are asking for help to locate 71-year-old Maria Timan, who was last seen at her home in the 1200 block of Nautical Way at 9:30 a.m. wearing a dark blue dress—she wore a long-sleeved multi-colored shirt and brown shoes.
🎭 Culture
West Coast artists displayed paintings, carvings, and sculptures at a free annual art show in Channel Islands Harbor—filling part of a parking lot off Channel Islands and Harbor Boulevards.
Some artists, including JD Shultz, have had their work in celebrity homes.
📰 Economy
Research shows that immigration raids have lowered wages and reduced job opportunities by increasing fear and curtailing spending in local economies, with Ventura County recording over 30 undocumented worker arrests in June.
Studies and local farm operators say these actions have not freed up jobs for citizens—and may harm long-term economic growth.
🏛️ Government
Ventura City Council voted 7—0 to allow Main Street to reopen to vehicles in November, ending a closure that began in June 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Downtown property owners had opposed the permanent change due to revenue losses, and staff will remove the parklets and barricades next.
