  • Naval Base Ventura County opened its gates for the annual Point Mugu Surf Contest where surfers competed for cash prizes and visitors enjoyed carnival booths and vendors. During final heats on Sunday, a pod of dolphins disrupted the event — adding excitement for spectators — as families gathered to make lasting beach memories.  KEYT

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Surfers and friends of surf instructor Elieah Boyd sent a get well surfboard (with words of encouragement) after she was struck by a train in early July while carrying an e-bike over tracks and lost an arm, and she is now recovering from surgery to reattach it.  KEYT

CRIME NEWS

  • A Ventura resident in his late 20s was arrested Friday afternoon after leaving his home on McFarlane Drive to confront a visitor about loud music and then using a loaded handgun to poke the visitor in the chest—he was booked for assault with a deadly weapon.  KEYT

  • Ventura Police Chief David Dickey took over on May 16 after former Chief Darin Schindler retired and has now served for two months.  Ventura County Star
