- ➤ On Aug. 4, a small oil spill from a pipeline near Spinnaker Drive in Ventura Harbor forced nearby streets to close as the Ventura Fire Department led a hazardous materials response to contain about 40 gallons of oil reported by a caller—local police and harbor patrol redirected traffic to keep the spill off the water. - ➤ SpaceX has planned four rocket launches from Vandenberg Space Force Base this month. The missions include three Starlink deployments on August 9, 13, and 17 and one rideshare flight on August 24 — delays are possible due to weather or technical issues — and they should be visible across California. - ➤ A 20-year-old man from Bakersfield was arrested in Oxnard on Sunday in connection with a shooting at Jolly Spirits Liquor on N. Ventura Road in Port Hueneme that occurred around 11:01 p.m.—detectives later located his vehicle and found a firearm during the investigation. KEYT
- ➤ At the trial that continues today, witness Ricardo Moreno said that in December, accused gang member Jiram Tenorio Ramón shot bystander Robert Gutierrez during a gang fight while the defense claims a rival gang fired first—trauma surgeon Dr. Benjamin Howard explained that the fatal wound led Gutierrez to an anoxic brain injury and his loved ones outside the court waited over two years for justice.
