CRIME NEWS

  • Ventura Police arrested a 25-year-old man after an investigation linked him to an Aug 11 sexual assault near Thille Park—he was booked for aggravated kidnapping and rape and was on parole for assault with a deadly weapon at the time.  KEYT
  • A retired Navy veteran once stationed at Port Hueneme has been charged with stealing over $9 million from the Navy by rigging bids—he has agreed to plead guilty and help federal investigators.  Moorpark Acorn

CULTURE NEWS

  • Saxophonist Kenny G will play live at the Fred Kavli Theatre on Wed. Nov. 12 at 7:30 p.m., marking his third show at the venue after past performances in February 2022 and 2018. Tickets start at $58—fans in the area can enjoy an evening of his smooth jazz sound.  Moorpark Acorn
  • The world’s largest corn hole festival is drawing hundreds to Ventura for three days of competitions and events—axe throwing, mixed martial arts, and a Nitro Circus motocross demonstration set for today. The festival offers over $300,000 in prize money along with a vintage truck show, live music, and many vendors.  KEYT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Ventura County schools welcome every student and family as the 2025—26 school year begins—officials ask parents to name a trusted caregiver due to concerns over immigration enforcement during school hours. The district is adding on-campus mental health help and will open a new welding testing center in Camarillo while working through funding delays and national policy challenges.  Moorpark Acorn

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Residents along Hollywood Beach voiced opposition to a federal agency proposal to upgrade coastal dunes and add low fences — they worry the changes may alter the beach's natural look near Channel Islands Harbor.  Ventura County Star

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Port Hueneme City Council member Laura Hernandez’s defamation suit against Police Chief Michael Federico was dismissed from small claims court on Aug. 21. She said she might re-file in Ventura County Superior Court to seek non-monetary relief to stop Federico’s false allegations against her—claims that include interfering with his hiring and creating a hostile work environment.  Ventura County Star
