  • Santa Paula will host the fourth annual Chicana Chicano Moratorium event for immigrant rights and journalists tomorrow at Veterans Memorial Park—118 S. 10th St.—from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., with speakers and performers sharing civil rights information amid concerns over immigration enforcement.  Ventura County Star

BUSINESS NEWS

  • SpaceX is planning a Falcon 9 launch today at 10:05 p.m. from Vandenberg Space Force Base to deploy 24 Starlink satellites. Residents in Ventura may see the rocket and hear a sonic boom if weather holds.  Ventura County Star
  • Today, Amtrak’s Pacific Surfliner runs from San Diego to San Luis Obispo with stops at Ventura County stations — riders enjoy clean, comfortable rides with free WiFi while an anticipated Metrolink service promises lower fares and easier bike access in the future.  Thousand Oaks Acorn

CRIME NEWS

  • On Aug. 26, Ventura County officials arrested 14 individuals and charged 9 for their alleged roles in an organized retail theft ring that stole over $10 million in merchandise from 71 Home Depot locations across five counties — more than 50 search warrants recovered over $3.7 million in stolen goods.  Thousand Oaks Acorn

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Ojai City Councilmember Leslie Rule faces a revived lawsuit that accuses her of violating the Brown Act by revealing details from closed council meetings—an appeals court on Aug. 19 reversed an earlier dismissal and sent the case back to Ventura County Superior Court while Rule plans to appeal and has asked the city to fund her legal defense.  Ventura County Star
  • Ventura County supervisors rejected a proposal from Supervisor Vianey Lopez on August 26 to use county funds for a legal defense program for undocumented immigrants facing deportation—stating that the money should go to core services like healthcare, veterans assistance, and child welfare. The board did approve new training protocols for staff who might encounter federal immigration enforcement amid heated public comments.  Thousand Oaks Acorn
  • Officials announced that the planned Metrolink commuter train from Moorpark to Santa Barbara is delayed until at least January—last-minute negotiations, insurance questions, and pending Union Pacific approval have pushed back the service intended to ease Highway 101 congestion. The demonstration project, costing $4.4 million and expecting 200 riders daily, may become permanent if federal funding and further approvals are secured.  Thousand Oaks Acorn
