ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A 5-year-old boy died after a loose rock fell on him while he was climbing at Rincon Point Sunday before sunset during Labor Day weekend—locals now urge warning signs to be added near the dangerous rock walls. KEYT
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A police report was filed after two bronze statues—a horse and a little girl—were stolen last week from Ivy Lawns Memorial Park in Ventura and police have no leads on the theft. KEYT
- ➤ Metal thieves broke through a fence at the Pacific Beverage Company to steal a bronze Clydesdale statue’s legs and also removed two bronze horses and a girl statue from a local cemetery+ police urge anyone who sees unusual activity to report it. KEYT
- ➤ The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office released body-camera footage from the July 31 shooting at a Camarillo mobile home park, showing deputies responding to a 911 call in which a man said he had killed someone and was seen holding a firearm—Deputy Cody Clobes shot the 79-year-old man after he stepped outside. The investigation is active—multiple reviews are underway and a handgun was recovered at the scene. Ventura County Star
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Former Congressman Elton Gallegly and wife Janice settled a nearly-4-year lawsuit with California Lutheran University; the on-campus Gallegly Center for Public Service and Civic Engagement will remain open. The settlement terms are private and details on the replica office and digitizing the archives were not given. Ventura County Star

- ➤ Sylvia Taylor-Stein retired on Sept. 4 at a banquet hosted by the Ventura County Ombudsman Program — an agency that monitors long-term care facilities; the ceremony honored her service as a nursing home advocate. Ventura County Star
