CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Hector Romeo Lopez Prado, 25, was arrested after a woman flagged a deputy on Sunday saying she had been kidnapped and nearly sexually assaulted her, and he was booked in Ventura County with bail set at $500,000—he appeared for arraignment on Tuesday. KEYT
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ SpaceX will launch its Falcon 9 rocket today — beginning its Tranche 1 mission to put military satellites into orbit for the Space Development Agency at Vandenberg Space Force Base. The launch window opens at 4:58 a.m. — with liftoff planned for 7:12 a.m. and a backup scheduled for tomorrow if needed. Ventura County Star
- ➤ George Retes, a 25-year-old U.S. citizen and Army veteran, said ICE agents used excessive force during a raid on July 10 while he was heading to work (he missed important family events and suffered vehicle damage). His attorney Anya Bidwell said Retes is suing federal officials under the Federal Tort Claims Act (he may take the case to the Supreme Court if necessary). KEYT
REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ Limoneira Co. announced plans to study turning its 220-acre Limco Del Mar property in east Ventura into homes, but the change will need community meetings and voter approval under city growth laws. The company will start by holding community meetings and conducting environmental studies before asking the city council for review — the project could be Ventura’s largest new housing proposal in decades. - ➤ Dos Pueblos won a close girls flag football game over Ventura when quarterback Kacey Hurley threw a 15 yard touchdown pass to Taylor Grant with 27 seconds left in the fourth quarter—this win improved their league record while Ventura fell to 3-3 on the season. KEYT
