Good morning, Ventura. Here's your local news at a glance for Friday, the 12th of September.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Firefighters and community members gathered at Ventura County Fire Station No. 41 in Simi Valley on Sept. 11 to honor fallen first responders, law enforcement officers, and civilians from the 9/11 attacks. Flags were lowered to half-staff at 6:59 a.m.—the time the first plane struck—while a moment of silence marked the remembrance.  Ventura County Star

CULTURE NEWS

  • A study by Skoove and DataPulse Research shows that American artists hold 79% of Spotify’s top charts in the U.S. and that California cities, with Los Angeles streaming 28% local talent, show strong hometown support—far more than cities like Chicago and Detroit. The report finds that while many countries stream less local music, U.S. listeners back their homegrown artists.  KEYT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Ventura County District Attorney Erik Nasarenko and Assemblymember Jacqui Irwin helped pass a bill allowing district attorneys in four counties to request gun violence restraining orders directly from courts — a pilot program that will require annual reports to UC Davis starting in 2027. The Governor must sign or veto the measure by Oct 12, or it becomes law automatically.  KEYT

HEALTH NEWS

  • A group of 250 Arthritis Foundation cyclists began their California Coast Classic Bike Tour last Saturday from San Francisco and have ridden through Santa Cruz, Monterey, Big Sur, Cambria, and Oceano for September’s Pain Awareness Month. They stayed at Flying Flags RV Resort and Campground in Buellton Thursday night and are riding to Ventura today—before finishing their tour in Los Angeles tomorrow.  KEYT
