- ➤ Ventura venues are changing — Black Angus on Telephone Road will reopen in October, the former Burger King building at 21 W. Main is being redeveloped into a Starbucks, Round1 Bowling & Arcade plans to open at Pacific View mall, and Plan B Wine Cellars closed on August 30. Ventura County Star
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Ventura College president Claudia Lourido-Habib resigned—her last day is Oct. 10—after serving just over a year, as stated in a Sept. 15 staff email from Chancellor Rick MacLennan. Vice president of student affairs Luca Lewis will serve as acting president while the college begins its search for an interim leader. Ventura County Star
- ➤ Ventura College launched the county's first speech language pathology assistant program at its east campus in Santa Paula. All first-semester courses filled within 48 hours and students will gain clinical training under a licensed pathologist to qualify for state licensure + the program removes the need to travel to Pasadena City College. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Volunteers will join Coastal Cleanup Day on Sept 20 from 9 a.m. to noon to remove cigarette butts, wrappers, bottle caps and other trash from beaches and waterways in our area, promoting year-round care for the environment. The event is sponsored by the Countywide Stormwater Quality Management Program and local agencies—offering educational updates and a statewide trash scavenger hunt with prizes—to meet state stormwater permit conditions.
