- ➤ Moorpark’s High Street work has reduced parking and hurt long‑time businesses like Cactus Patch, which struggled to stay open with fewer customer spaces. City officials plan to finish upgrades by Halloween and are negotiating with the Transportation Commission for extra parking — steps aimed at helping local merchants as more residents move in. - ➤ Visitors to The Oaks may see Jumping the Shark (a free pop-up exhibition) featuring 30 shark sculptures created by Sideshow and guest artists from Sept. 13 to Sept. 28. - ➤ Grammy-winning R&B artist Anderson .Paak will headline the .Paak House Festival at Cal State Channel Islands on Oct 11 (part of Homecoming Week) as he partners with the Brandon Anderson Foundation to uplift underserved youth. The festival will feature live music, youth art showcases and family-friendly activities as part of a week of events that began on Oct 6. Moorpark Acorn
- ➤ Students and families in Ventura and Los Angeles counties are invited by the High School at Moorpark College+ a free public school on the 7075 Campus Road campus+ to attend info nights from 6 to 7 p.m. on upcoming Thursdays from Oct. 9 to April 30 to learn about earning both a high school diploma and transferable college credits. The program helps students finish college requirements early and cut future tuition costs while keeping class sizes small. Moorpark Acorn
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ State lawmakers have proposed three bills—Senate Bill 312, Assembly Bill 506 and Assembly Bill 519—to end deceptive practices that allow puppy mills to sell dogs without proper disclosure. Assemblyman Steve Bennett led the effort with AB 506, and Gov. Newsom’s upcoming signature is expected to reinforce consumer protection. Moorpark Acorn
LIFESTYLE NEWS
- ➤ McGrath Brothers Great Pacific Pumpkins in Ventura will open its Fall Harvest Pumpkin Patch from Sept 29 to Oct 31 where visitors can enjoy hay rides, a hay maze, and farm animal encounters for a small fee. Other regional farms in Camarillo, Moorpark, and Santa Paula will host fall festivals featuring pumpkin patches, tractor rides, and themed family fun. Moorpark Acorn
