  • On Oct 5, Fire Captain Brian McGrath performed at Charity Karaoke at The Canyon club in Agoura Hills to help local nonprofits raise over $54,000. Donations will be accepted until the end of October—Conejo Schools Foundation earned $3,000 as the top audience vote.  Thousand Oaks Acorn

CRIME NEWS

  • Victims of the 2018 Borderline Bar and Grill mass shooting must apply for up to $70,000 in compensation by November 7 to cover treatment, bills, lost income, home security, and funeral costs — CalVCB has approved 288 applications and awarded nearly $268,000 in benefits so far.  Thousand Oaks Acorn

  • Today at Ventura City Hall, Sen. Monique Limón led a gathering where families and civic leaders shared how affordable housing is changing lives—she pledged to work with state and local partners to expand access and help close the housing gap.  KEYT

HEALTH NEWS

  • Takeda expanded its manufacturing facility in Thousand Oaks on Oct. 1 with a $170 million investment that added 15,000 square feet for a treatment for Hunter syndrome—a rare genetic disease that mostly affects young boys. Advocate Kristin McKay, who lost her brother to the disease, said the expansion gives new hope for better treatments and stronger community support.  Thousand Oaks Acorn
  • Gold Coast Health Plan is expanding its public health insurance to add a Medicare Advantage plan that combines Medicare and Medi-Cal benefits — eligible individuals can enroll starting Oct. 15 with coverage beginning Jan. 1 to support about 27,000 Ventura County residents who qualify for both programs.  Ventura County Star

  • Patty Bolland, 72, of Ventura retired on Oct.8 after 45 years leading Jazzercise classes at a local mobile home park—she will serve as a substitute until the end of October.  Ventura County Star
