- ➤ City Impact will hold its Thrive Together Awards on Nov.18 at Sterling Hills Golf Club in Camarillo at 5 p.m.—honoring local business leaders who drive change and support at-promise youth and families. Tickets cost $85 per person with nominations open until Oct.24—and proceeds will fund programs that offer mentorship and opportunities in Ventura County. Moorpark Acorn
- ➤ At Santa Rosa Valley Park on Oct. 11, over 1,000 people enjoyed family fun at the Fall Festival while raising funds for the Stepping Stones Riding Program. Rosemary Allison’s apple pie—made with walnuts, golden raisins and a delicious crust—sold for $160 in the 11th annual pie auction. Moorpark Acorn
- ➤ Today, family-friendly fall events bring local communities together with activities such as trick-or-treating, costume contests and outdoor movie screenings at venues like Moorpark College’s 'Boo at the Zoo' and Historic Corriganville’s movie night—events continue through Oct. 25 in locations including Simi Valley, Camarillo, and Thousand Oaks. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Hairspray, the musical about teen integration on TV, opened last week at the Scherr Forum at the Bank of America Performing Arts Center in Thousand Oaks and runs through Oct.26. Marissa Jaret Winokur—who once played Tracy on Broadway—is now directing the production and guiding the cast as they bring fresh ideas to the show. Moorpark Acorn
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Law enforcement agencies across Ventura County launched the Blue Envelope Project on Sept. 25th, a new program that gives people with disabilities a blue ID item so officers can adjust their communication style. The initiative is free and voluntary+ all ten agencies have completed training to help reduce misunderstandings during service calls. Moorpark Acorn
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Dos Pueblos and San Marcos—Channel League co-champions—will host first-round home games in the Division 1 flag football playoffs on Wednesday, October 22 at 5 p.m., with Dos Pueblos set to host Etiwanda and San Marcos set to host Lakewood St. Joseph; Camarillo will host Oxnard in Division 1, Ventura Cougars will host Fullerton in Division 2 on Tuesday, October 21, and additional matchups across Divisions 2, 3, and 4 are scheduled on Tuesday.
