- ➤ California utility regulators plan to cut the return on equity for major power companies—lowering shareholder profits for PG&E, Edison and San Diego Gas & Electric—to the lowest margin in 20 years, and experts say the change will barely lower customer bills; the commission will vote on the proposal in December. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Ventura County is turning Thanksgiving excess into benefits by recycling cooking grease into biodiesel — reducing sewer clogs — and organizing backyard fruit gleaning through Food Forward. Homeowners, restaurants, and schools can drop off small amounts of grease in Oxnard or join volunteer teams to share extra fruit with people in need. Ventura County Star
- ➤ A U.S. District Court judge ruled last week that off-roading at Oceano Dunes violates the Endangered Species Act — a decision meant to protect snowy plovers and other shorebirds. The ruling requires the Center for Biological Diversity and California State Parks to work together — a step to develop a new management plan. KEYT

- ➤ Ventura officials ordered residents and businesses in the Pierpont area not to use water today after gas was detected beneath the Sinclair gas station Tuesday.
