About this event
Beginning and Intermediate level.
Move with Freedom.
Dance with Expression
This contemporary modern dance class blends influences from contemporary and modern dance techniques with somatic practices, including principles of the Alexander Technique, Irene Dowd’s work, Bartenieff Fundamentals, and yoga. Through an exploration of body awareness, alignment, coordination, and the relationship between breath and movement, we’ll deepen our understanding of how the body moves and discover new pathways toward greater freedom, efficiency, and expression.
Movement is rooted in organic qualities and rich physical detail, incorporating expansive circular shapes, seamless transitions, supple floorwork, and powerful traveling sequences. We’ll move through a wide range of movement qualities, from athletic and percussive to lyrical and sensual, developing versatility, strength, fluidity, and a deeper connection to the body’s natural rhythms and impulses.
Together, we’ll cultivate resilience, coordination, spatial awareness, and movement efficiency while nurturing curiosity, embracing risk-taking, and expanding our physical and artistic possibilities.
This class offers space to experiment, trust your instincts, take creative risks, and find new ways of moving, connecting, and expressing yourself through dance. Whether you’re an experienced dancer or simply curious to explore, you’ll be encouraged to meet yourself where you are, embrace the process of discovery, and grow in a supportive and open environment.
Come as you are, bring your curiosity, and give yourself permission to explore, expand, and reconnect with the freedom, creativity, and joy of dancing!
