Here's your local news at a glance for Saturday, the 17th of May.
Good morning, Ventura.
🎓 Education
Cal State Channel Islands was recently named—by the American Council on Education and the Carnegie Foundation—for designation as a Research College and an Opportunity College, making it one of only 33 schools to earn these honors.
The university has grown since 2002 by focusing on research, community service and programs that boost student success.
🏛️ Government
On May 7, the Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District approved a conceptual plan (4-1 board vote) to build a BMX track on an 11-acre site next to the Sinaloa Golf Course, and General Manager Dan Paranick will sign contracts with consultants to prepare the needed site application.
The $2.6 million project, expected to complete in under three years, follows years of delays since the Sycamore BMX Raceway closed (local concerns include traffic and lighting) and aims to offer a new outdoor space for youth.
